November is the biggest gaming sales month of the year due to Black Friday sales and the beginning of the holiday season. So how did sales turn out? Understandably, all console sales at least doubled in number from October, with Nintendo at the top with over 2 million and 1.5 million in Wii’s and DS’s, respectively. What’s also nice is that unlike the 360 and PS3, every Wii sold is a profit for Nintendo so they’re rolling in dough.
On the software side, the big 360 titles bubble to the top as usual. While last month’s Fable II and Fallout 3 both were leaders of the top 10, this month we see Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty: World at War up top. Clearly the 360 pumped out monster titles, and I’m glad that I have played or am currently playing all of the 360′s big releases. I’m a little surprised that World at War sold as well as it did – I guess the association with Call of Duty 4 helped its sales moreso than the detraction of going back to WWII. Also notable is Left 4 Dead sold almost half a million, making it clearly not a niche title, and it even beat out Resistance 2 on the PS3.
The Wii has its usual top sellers in Wii Play, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart, games that get sold with practically every new Wii system, but one interesting thing is that Guitar Hero World Tour and Wii Music both made the top 10 in November even though they released in October with much lighter sales. It looks like while 360 and PS3 owners didn’t receive GHWT too warmly, it may have found a nice home in the Wii since it can snuggle next to Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Kart, and Wii Music as a family friendly casual affair.
