If you own a PS3 or 360 with HDMI (or are consider buying either), don’t go for the official HDMI cables that cost an arm and a leg in the stores. Just buy a generic one, since they’re much much cheaper and they’re just as effective.

Meritline is selling a two pack of very long HDMI cables for only $9 total. Worth it to have two for upgrades down the line…

    Agreed,

I know someone who buys those HDMI cables with golden tips for around 70 bucks. Supposedly it gives a superior picture and sound. I honestly don’t see a difference in quality between the generic 10 dollar cable and the brand name ones.

ya i’m pretty sure the golden tips are a scam. i think a lot of companies (and even electronics stores) make a lot of profit off of the margins on accessories like this. what usually happens is microsoft or sony decides to charge you $40 for a component cable, but they have it made in China for $3. Well, why not just buy the Chinese made ones directly for $5?

It’s a pretty easy sell also. In this day and age where everyone wants a nice HDTV with a great sound system, a store associate can easily talk you into buying the more expensive cables just so you don’t “ruin your investment”. don’t listen to them!
