Don’t be fooled…
This past week I decided to buy Call of Duty 4: Game of the Year edition since it was on sale at BestBuy for $30. I figured, with the map pack selling for a few bucks online, this is a pretty good deal since I can get back into the game and even try out the new maps before the sequel hits this fall.
Apparently I was not the only one to discover that now there is no map pack in CoD4: GOTY edition. Even though the original 2008 press release for the game clearly states that it contains the map pack, subsequent printings of this GOTY edition stopped shipping with them. So basically, CoD4: GOTY is the exact same thing as CoD4 – except it says “Game of the Year Edition” on the cover and disc.
What the heck? Talk about misleading. At least in the 360 gaming world, a GOTY edition for any game means extra content, even if it’s free DLC like Left 4 Dead GOTY with the extra survival modes. A game comes out, sells well, DLC comes out for it, and then a GOTY edition for that game comes out bundling the DLC that was already released. Activision has taken it one step further (or back, I would argue), by removing the DLC that came with the GOTY edition, and yet still call it the GOTY edition.
Fortunately, the game still rocks and while I was curious to check out the new maps, from what I’ve heard they’re not great so I’m not going to sweat it too much. But beware if you’re thinking you’ll find the new maps in your GOTY edition!
we have the same problem on sony ps3 as well. have been looking for a redeem code every where. no luck i dont understand why they would call it Game of the Year Edition if there is nothing to the edition part of it. Pritty pissed off. don’t know how much the pack for x-box is but it is $9.99 for sony and the game is still $59.99. sounds like a rip off to me!!!
I bought the GOTY edition and it did not come with any map pack either. Thats rat. I dont think ill by them since I already pre ordered moder warfare 2.

I went out and got game of the year edition expecting the dlc but nope theres nothing on there cost me £7 more as well

What a crock. I’m amazed at how many people are not only willing to roll over and take it from this company, but are willing to give them MORE money for Modern Warfare 2! Come on kids!!! Where’s your fighting spirit? Does it all evaporate in front of the TV while you’re playing these games? It’s not crack… grow a pair and voice your anger until these scam-artists feel something other than their wallets filling.

I just got a used copy of the Call of Duty 4 GOTY edition for PS3 and no map pack. Granted, I already own Modern Warfare 2, and I just grabbed COD4 to play the single player campaign for that. MW2 was the first Call of Duty game I’ve tried, and the campaign was so good (albeit brief) that I had to grab the previous game to play it too. Good stuff.
But seriously, what is the point of releasing a GOTY edition with no extras? The extra content on those releases is how they can justify charging almost full price for the game a year later. (Like Fallout 3 GOTY that I also recently got). Usually these releases are good for people who were on the fence or didn’t have the time or money to buy the game when it was first released, so they add a few bonuses a year later to finally get the fencesitters to buy it.
On a side note, I can’t believe they are still charging over $50 for some year-old games like Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. I can try to hunt down used versions, but I guess for now I have enough backlog to wait on these games. Just thought they might be fun for the multiplayer. I borrowed Killzone 2 and played the campaign, so its definitely not worth $50 for just the multiplayer at this point.

or better… I bought the normal version, for 20€ and I received a box with “Game Of The Year” label, but not 4 maps included, so I suppose it’s normal. The box with +4 maps was sold for 34€ and I didn’t want to spend +14€ for just 4 maps.
Ah I’m so annoyed, I spent an extra $9 at JB hi fi (Australia) for the game of the year edition, and even the person there selling it to me TOLD me that it had the DLC, time to start up a lawsuit.
ya the map pack comes out to about $10 on the 360 as well. don’t buy it and just save your money for the sequel coming out this fall. we’re all pissed now, but once modern warfare 2 is in our hands, this map pack rip off will hopefully be a distant memory…
modern warfare 2 is THE BEST COD GAME EVER!!!i cant believe the realistic content.i mean yea the game would be a fucking hell of alot better if they had a upgraded nazi zombies or zombie terrorists or something.but i heard that 1 there making alien terroists…and 2 the new cod 7 IS based in vietnam.if you have a ps3 it tells you in the free news.also WHY THE HELL DID THEY DOWNGRADE THE MW2 MODELS!!!!!this pissed me the fuck off.they used to have beast ass distance.WTF!!!!!!!!!infinite ward you have had rip-offs (like cod4 goty)but this is gone too fuckin far.they majorly fucked their selfes in the ass on that little shinanigan.ill tell you why when you get the models for whatever rank you are(im 55 in 2nd prestige) they suck sooo bad.the distance and damage sucks.i say we all start a prostest about the downgradin.WHO AGREES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
