After recently picking up BlazBlue, I decided to go check out the Achievements available for the game. While I’ve sort of given up on trying to earn Achievements hardcore, I like to see how the developers envision we should play the game. And look at one of the Achievements I found for BlazBlue:

blazblueachievement

Pretty amusing reference to the Karate Kid and definitely one of my favorite songs from the era. Of course, it’s only really good when paired with the Karate Kid movie footage of the tournament – which I have conveniently included here. Keep your sound on to experience the full power of the video!

Penny Arcade is doing a short series on BlazBlue that I don’t understand at all

Seems like they are just making fun of fighting games in general. How they are fun to play initially, then has some crazy learning curve, and it gets “serious” after that.

yeah i didn’t quite find the comic that amusing either, but i can sort of understand what they’re getting at from past experience. there is that time when you first get a fighting game where you and your friends are just playing together and having a good time without knowing anything. then someone decides to study up on it and learn all sorts of techiniques and glitches and stuff forcing everyone else to escalate their gameplay as well if they want to be able to keep playing.

i don’t know how much further they can take the strip because the first two panels of the strip are what resonated the most with me, as well as most readers of the comic i would imagine. i’m just not a good fighting game player and prefer to live in the first panel – but i never can now because there’s always somebody that will take it to the next level, making us all lose our innocence. in this case, it looks like both of the two secretly learned advanced techniques on their own (one bought a guidebook, and one watched the dvd that came with the special edition) and thought it wasn’t going to be noticed by the other when they started playing again. which of course, is silly as demonstrated in the second part of the comic.

haha i am considering putting impressions out sometime this week, but my brother is also visiting this weekend. i may want to hold off until i can spend a few hours playing it against him since he has more insight in fightin games. in any case, please be a little more patient!
