In Halo: Reach, you fight alongside other Spartans as members of Noble Team.

A few weeks back, cmfl3x provided his review on the single player campaign of Halo: Reach. I’ve been spending a lot of time playing the campaign as well as everything else on the disc these last couple of weeks, and am ready to provide a review. Once again – for the record, I will state that I am not a Halo fan. Curious as to what this non-Halo fan thinks of Halo: Reach? Hit the jump to find out!

Here we go again…

War never changes. Nor does Fallout – or so it would seem. I’ve spent almost seven hours in the Mojave Wasteland without even knowing it. That may not seem like a lot of time since I’ve had the game for a week, but life has been pretty busy – for proof, I have barely even played Starcraft in the past week. So is it just nostalgia, or does Vegas bring something new to the Fallout table?

District 9 and Kick-Ass are two great films for mature gamers now available on DVD.

My wife was out of town this past weekend, leaving me to myself. Between my time spent playing Halo: Reach and Fallout 3: GOTY, I watched a couple of films that I didn’t think she would be interested in seeing: District 9 & Kick-Ass. After having seen both, I think I was right in that she would probably found it difficult to sit through both. Both of these films were perhaps too gruesome for her, but I think any gamer will enjoy these films – provided you are old/mature enough to watch them. If you want to go in fresh when you see these films, don’t hit the jump. But…if you want to know why I think they’re so great for gamers, read on. [WARNING: SPOILERS!]

Vanquish is the newest game from the acclaimed development studio, Platinum Games.

The Fall gaming season is upon us. Major titles are being released on a nearly weekly basis, with heavy hitters such as Fable III, Rock Band 3, and Call of Duty: Black Ops looking like major titles this season. Amongst these Fall releases sits a Japanese developed game that was released this past week: Vanquish. I was never too hyped to play this game, but with K-Mart offering a major deal with it this week (buy Vanquish for $40 and get nearly any other recently released title for $30) I had to check out the demo to see for myself if I should partake in the deal. Read on for my thoughts on the demo, as well as my reaction to the reviews.

Monkey and Trip are two authentic characters in Enslaved’s excellent story.

Chances are you may not have heard of the game Enslaved, brought to you by the same people who made Heavenly Sword, the highly anticipated but terribly received PS3 exclusive way back when. Enslaved manages to achieve the opposite phenomenon – it received a very modest publicity campaign (I had never heard of it until the day it came out at least) but has done pretty well with the press. Are they right? Is this “Odyssey to the West” an epic adventure worth your time and money?

Buying Fallout: New Vegas at K-Mart for $30 and getting these free coasters? Sold!

With my extensive gaming backlog (dozens of games, including pretty much the entire PS3 exclusive library), I made a subconscious decision to stop buying single player games at launch – just because I can wait to pick them up on the cheap much later. I honestly thought that the only game I would pick up between now and the rest of the year would be Call of Duty: Black Ops, since Starcraft 2, Halo: Reach, and Call of Duty: Black Ops would probably keep me busy for months. But then I recently discovered a K-Mart promotion for Fallout: New Vegas, and have now started actually considered buying games at my local K-Mart. Read on what I’ve discovered at K-Mart in terms of video game deal hunting – the good and the bad.

Being able to play Final Fantasy VII on my PSP for $10? Sign me up!

I’ve been traveling a lot for both personal and business reasons for this past week or so, and the PSP has been my only source of gaming on my trips. One of the things that I think is really cool about owning a PS3 and a PSP is the PS One Classics line. These are PS1 games that are sold through PSN between $6-$10 in price, and are digital downloads that can be played on both the PS3 and the PSP. Considering the PS1 graphics aren’t too great on our HD TV sets these days, I’m not a big fan of playing the games on the PS3, but on the go with my PSP? Perfect! Hit the jump for a list of PS One Classics currently available that I will probably purchase at some point and a list of remaining PS1 games that I hope come out for download in the future for us here in the States.

Comic Jumper has very high artistic and production values

My love of ‘Splosion Man is well documented, so I figured I owed it to myself to check out Twisted Pixel’s latest game. Since it’s on XBLA, I was able to check out the demo before purchasing. I haven’t decided to buy it yet, although the game looks pretty promising. My thoughts on why after the jump.

Is PC Gaming really dead with such strong titles like these?

cmfl3x’s article this week had me thinking more about computer gaming lately. Not so long ago, I felt that a lot of game companies decided that they wanted to move towards the console market due to the inherent piracy involved with computer gaming. Yet today, computer gaming is stronger than ever. I’d love to use the term PC gaming instead of computer gaming, but the truth of the matter is, companies like Valve and Blizzard have really been supporting Mac gaming.

The current gaming landscape on the computer is strong enough that I could take a vacation from both my 360 and PS3 and still be quite entertained. Hit the jump for what I consider the games that are keeping computer gaming still relevant in this supposed “console age”.

That’s my Civilization in the center.

Every few months forces conspire against me and I execute an “impulse buy.” Though these purchases aren’t always accompanied with a side of regret, they still happen more often than they should and usually for silly reasons. They also generally occur after 11 PM.
