i agree that Peace Walker works very well on the PSP. It doesn't have the large scope that the console games had, but I actually enjoy it for what it is and simply being able to do a few missions on my train ride every day works out very well. i don't think peace walker would be that great if it got translated to the ps3, as it was probably designed as a portable game in mind and it definitely succeeds. i guess we will have to wait until metal gear solid: lightning or whatever that new raiden game is for our next console related mgs fix!

and ya, i've seen the credits but i know that it's not over yet as i keep getting more story missions and bonus missions. some of these bonus missions are pretty amusing. this morning on my ride into work i played through a mission where i was supposed to take a photograph of a commanding officer hidden among various soldiers. the only hint i had was that the commanding officer didn't work as hard and i found him by the river doing squats instead of patroling. i proceeded to take his photo, shot him with a tranq, and recruited him. "welcome to my army, slacker!" haha

stalker/observer combo is great for mid game since you can generally do that army out of 1 base or as you are expanding and it allows you to handle cloaked detection like you said - great defensive and offensive flexibility. if you have a zerg partner, you can also use his overlord to let your stalkers blink into the mineral line of your opponents as well so you don't have to rely on an observer for that.

but why stop using your robotics facility after making an observer? now that you have a robotics facility or two up, you might as well start cranking immortals or colossi (after making the support bay) after your first observer or two to give your massed stalkers more beef.

i recommend transitioning from only stalkers into observers and stalkers with blink for the mid-game, and then once you've expanded, throw in either immortals or colossi out of two robotics facilities depending on what you go up against: against tanks and roaches go immortals, and against mass mmm or speedling/hydra go colossi. (colossi or immortals work against an opponent simply massing stalkers.)

just think of it as a 3 stage process: stalkers first, then stalkers with observers, then stalkers with observers and colossi or immortals. stalkers and colossi are a very potent combo, and are recommended as the general protoss army when you don't know what the enemies are making. immortals should only be made as a hard counter and it's a judgment call at that point.

the problem for me is how can i get myself to actually play less. i hit platinum in 4v4 this weekend, so part of me wants to just continue to get diamond in that, and i'm replaying the campaign on brutal now. and of course, i'll still keep returning to 3v3 diamond since i want to make use of the bonus pool. so yeah...i kind of wish i didn't enjoy the game so much because i feel like if i'm not at work, i'm just playing this game (much to my wife's chagrin). if i were to step back a little, i think i have somewhat of a slight addiction to starcraft 2.

will i even open halo reach when it arrives next week?! help!

Something I've found myself doing more and more is the Stalkers + Observer combo. This is partially because I don't really transition well into mid game, but for whatever reason, I find that not many people really try to blink into the back of people's bases. While teammate1 and teammate2 occupy the entrance of a base with a front-on assault, I just run around the back and use the Observer to blink in.

This also protects them from dark templars and any terran cloaked units, which I saw with great frequency this weekend.

I also had the problem regarding my ears mot fitting properly, it's realy annoying because sometimes it gets so bad I have to take them off - but then of course you dont get the qualities that you would if you had them on.... is there a way to either adjust the headset or make/buy something to make it fit better? because if there was, I'm sure it would help many people. thanks.

Nice! I've been waiting for your review. Yep, this is a great game and it really makes me want to go back and play all the other metal gear games again. I have MGS3: Subsistence, which includes the original NES Metal Gears 1 and 2, so those will be fun to check out to see how well the story transitions from Peace Walker. Obviously the scope of the MGS games has expanded drastically since the NES days though, so I'm not expecting too much.

A lot of people want a PS3 version of Peace Walker, but I think there's something about it that works on the PSP. The story is more character driven than the other games in the series that have lots of big action moments, so it seems right to have the game on a hand-held where only you are experiencing the game (unless you actually know someone else with a PSP so you can play adhoc co-op). Also, the soldier recruiting and searching for wi-fi points is quite fun too, but I think I would be less inclined to spend so much time with that on a home console. Commuting is perfect for just doing a couple short levels and trying to recruit some soldiers. I think the replayability is actually increased with it being on a handheld, I guess.

So you have seen the credits. I hope you keep playing though, because it’s not over yet…

i don't think i've turned on my 360 or ps3 since sc2 came out! it's funny - starcraft 2 has single-handedly killed off my desire to buy all games now and in the immediate future. i looked at the games being released for the rest of the year and perhaps the only two games i may pick up are halo reach and the new call of duty - mostly because Amazon is giving $20 credit with those purchases. will i even play them? i don't know! but, i'm happy to hear that at least halo: reach's firefight mode will have matchmaking this time around, so i may end up spending more time with that than the actual adversarial modes.

i like the new class system from trying out the beta, but it's not enough for me to be too excited since i was never a big fan of the halo gameplay to begin with. of course, i never got a chance to check out the objective based multiplayer mode(s) in the beta, so maybe i will have fun with it after all.

it's funny - we're definitely not getting any younger and time for video games seems so little nowadays. it's like each night do i feel like playing a couple games of sc2 or cod or halo? and that's it! i was even interested in wow cataclysm, but decided that it would be a terrible idea to consider getting back into wow at this point in my life. how sad it is to grow up...
