The Arrival marks the return of Admiral Hackett of the Alliance, but you probably don’t remember him anyway

I picked up the final piece of Mass Effect 2 DLC this week, and so now I have officially played through everything I can pay for in Mass Effect 2. The Arrival is supposed to serve as a bridge to Mass Effect 3, so that’s supposed to get you EXCITED. Does it serve that purpose? Am I sad that Mass Effect 2 is over? Is it worth seven dollars? Hit the jump to find out.

This guy may look big and dumb, but the infernal brute splicers are deadly

I wasn’t too thrilled with the idea of BioShock 2 – I was amongst the camp that felt the original was nearly perfect and figured a follow up was a cash-in that might ruin the franchise. I finally picked the game up when it was on sale for cheap around Christmas, and finished it last week. Wow, was I wrong, I really love the gameplay in BioShock and thoroughly enjoyed the sequel. espion4ge already reviewed the game way back when though, so I picked up the Minerva’s Den DLC (also on sale) and gave it a whirl. Another cash in, or worth it? Hit the jump to find out.

Miss Liara from the first Mass Effect? Check out The Lair of the Shadow Broker to catch up.

Congratulations to PS3 owners – you now have access to playing Mass Effect 2, one of the top games of 2010! To commemorate this special launch week for PS3 owners, I have gone ahead and played the last (and arguably best) of the DLC expansion packs for the game. Fortunately for PS3 owners, you will get this regardless when you purchase the PS3 version of the game. Hit the jump for my review.

Kasumi’s Stolen Memory and Overlord are 2 of the 4 planned expansions for Mass Effect 2.

Over the holidays, Microsoft put all three major Mass Effect 2 DLC packs on sale so I picked them up. I’m not one to really pick up DLC for games, especially not through downloading, but the price point for them was quite reasonable for one of the strongest games of 2010. So far, I’ve gotten a chance to play through the Kasumi’s Stolen Memory DLC and the Overlord DLC. Playstation 3 owners that pick up Mass Effect 2 this month can look forward to all of the DLC released so far (which will include Kasumi’s Stolen Memory & Overlord) on the disc when they pay full price for it. For 360 and PC owners however, you have no choice but to buy it online as there is no physical disc that contains these expansions. Hit the jump to read my review on each one.

The second half of our two part feature revisits cmfl3x’s picks from the beginning of the year.

Aside from Starcraft II, espion4ge and I had pretty different lists of anticipated games for 2010. As espion4ge pointed out on Monday, a lot of his picks turned out to be busts. My list fared a little bit better – hit the jump to see why.

Hit the jump to see the games I was most looking forward to in 2010 at the beginning of this year and my thoughts how they eventually ended up.

It all boils down to this: our game of the year for 2010. cmfl3x and I had some discussion over the various games we decided to nominate for game of the year this year, so have a look and see what we have to say. Keep in mind that all games on this list are worth playing, but if you can only play one…look no further than our game of the year.

Welcome to Leveling Down’s 3rd Annual Gaming Awards/Holiday Shopping Guide! For those of you that are first time readers of our awards/holiday shopping guide, cmfl3x and I have basically compiled a list of various games released this year into different categories. We choose a “winner” of each category, but at the same time, all games mentioned as nominees in each category are worth considering – hence, the shopping guide aspect of it. If you can only pick one game from the category, go with the winner. If you enjoy that category a lot, consider checking out all of the nominees on that list!

As cmfl3x and I discussed the various categories and selected winners for each one, some categories we did not always agree on the same winner. This year, instead of forcing one another to see agree on the same game, we have instead allowed for ties – so there is a potential of two winners for each category. Our gaming tastes are not exactly the same and I didn’t think any of you would gain much from us forcing only one winner.

Our 2010 Gaming/Awards/Holiday Shopping Guide will span across all gaming platforms, and will run over the next two weeks on our normal Monday, Wednesday, and Friday posting schedule. Next Friday’s entry will conclude this year’s feature with our 2010 Game of the Year.

Without further ado, hit the jump for today’s categories: Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Role Playing Game.

Is it even possible to play all of these significant games/betas this month?

Last month I posted a gaming schedule for April, and I think it worked out pretty well. I was able to make my way through Final Fantasy XIII, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Dante’s Inferno, and surprisingly, Army of Two: The 40th Day. A couple weeks ago, I posted a different entry discussing games that I wouldn’t mind paying a monthly fee for. But now that May is underway, I’ve realized that maybe being able to play all four games I was willing to pay monthly fees for at the same time is perhaps a bit too much – on top of Mass Effect 2, which carried over from last month. So, what the heck do I do in May?! Read on as I postulate my gaming schedule for the rest of the month.
